Very true. In fact, you can almost count the number of non-independent cities in Northern Virginia (Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, Eastern Loudoun and Stafford Counties) on one hand. Clifton, Dumfries, Quantico, Herndon, and Leesburg. Note that Stafford and Arlington counties don't even have any non-independent cities (Of course, Arlington only switched from an independent city to a county in the 1990s). See below for what I mean by non-independent cities. > > Two, there is a well-developed community of gun > owners, especially on the Net. Non-independent cities are towns with mayors or city managers, but the schools (and probably other things) are run by the county in which they are located. Independent Cities are totally seperate from the county in which they are located in, and they completely control themselves (Manassas, Manassas Park, and Alexandria are all examples of this in Northern Virginia).
