Much local news in Charlottesville (where there are only two local groups: chv.general and chv.test) is bottled up inside UVa. UVa has probably over 100 newsgroups in uva.*, but refuses to allow any of them outside the campus feeds. Most of the ISPs in Charlottesville have a dozen or so local newsgroups. The users on the ISPs, and at least some of the ISPs themselves, want more local news coverage. But UVa doesn't. I've talked about relaxing coverage with uva.*, or moving some of uva.* into chv.* with Gina at least two or three times over the last 5 years and she just "doesn't see the need". This certainly isn't lambasting Gina; I think she does a good job. But just because a conversation hasn't taken place in va.* doesn't mean it hasn't taken place. I see a striking similarity here. I've created va.config and va.forsale on Comdial's server, and didn't honor the rmgroup's sent out. I've also created them on my home system (adastra.cvl.va.us) and the other three UUCP systems I feed. We are propagating them. UVa and VT don't have to carry the groups; and that will certainly leave a huge hole in the propagation in Virginia. It's unfortunate.
