No, actually, exactly the opposite is true. My first point was that
it seems to me you were implying that the only conversation that may
have occurred would've been in va.general. Conversation between users,
system administrators, etc. happens all the time.

My second point is that exactly what you've described does occur. A
great deal of general-interest conversation happens in the uva.*
hierarchy.
