Tom, really... I have no personal beef with you, although I can
see it coming off that way... I used to push condoms where I
live (inner city Cleveland) as a solution, about 4 years ago
when I was 17 and saw all my friends getting pregnant (or
getting girls pregnant), having abortions, getting AIDS and VD
etc.

Now I realize that the condom solution failed, and is failing,
miserably.  More condoms didn't do anything except give a false
sense of security that wasn't there.  According to Guttenmacher
studies, the average 18-25 year old believes condoms to be
*equally* effective against AIDS and pregnancy, although the
actual statistics are somewhere between 5-20% for pregnancy,
and 25-50% for AIDS (a virus which is much smaller than sperm
cells, for those who aren't aware of this).. this is just a
completely unacceptable solution to me, and more than that
gives a completely false feeling of safety when using condoms...

Yep, unprotected sex fails.. and I guess that abstinence and
monogamy are not viable solutions to you... I am only
suggesting them because they work.  They aren't as fun, but
you'll be alive to tell about it.  As for being unrealistic...
it is for some, but not for all.  Condoms need to play second
fiddle as long as these horrible rates exist, or else we all
risk being accomplices to the spread of pregnancy and AIDS...

To prove the point, would you sleep with someone who had AIDS,
with only a condom for protection??  I don't think you would.
So why say condoms are the answer?  Not being sarcastic or
condescending.  I'd really like to know.
