> > I'd like to see the effectiveness of intelligent flexibility when you suddenly > hit a patch of ice. > There are places and circumstances where one will, indeed, hit "black ice" unexpectedly. This happens when it is very, very cold and the is water running across the road. But you just don't "suddenly" hit a patch of ice on I-95! You have a few "clues." Such as it is snowing, or freezing rain and the temp is at or below freezing. Now, one may occasionally hit a short patch of ice but drivers who anticipate conditions beyond the bumper of the car in front will properly prepare themselves by slowing down before the patch and then doing little or nothing (including NO lane changes) while on the ice patch. If you hit a patch of ice you have POTENTIAL big trouble. If you are going too fast to complete a curve on the road under ice conditions you may be SOL. Yet another reason to slow down when conditions turn bad (especially on a road that has below standard curves. >
