But something else you might take a look at... when was the last time you saw a military age Anglo who wasn't clearly a lame doper or idiot? > Hispanics are taking over Mont Co with an > invasion like you have never seen before. Silver Spring's downtown is damned scary at night. It's like there _should_ be people around... but there aren't. > You can easily spot > where they live. The County government, so far as I can tell, actively supports it. I remember a conversation I had with one of the few American-born employees at the Human Services bureau, she was pretty astounded at how the US-born were totally ignored and screwed-over by the County. For instance, for ID the US-born had to provide "secure" birth certificates, but I saw one guy provide a photocopied birth-cert from Nicaragua and they accepted it without question. > > Look what they did to this neighborhood in California: > > http://bmherder.tripod.com/usa.htm Ah, one of my favorites. Actually, the emerging Hispanic Enclaves are in both Northern Virginia and Metro Maryland -- basically if you look just inside the Beltway where I-95 _would_ go if it went straight through town, if you go there you had better be prepared to speak Spanish. > > 1. Columbia, Md. Howard County. Basically, it's very rural, and has a lot of the problems that you get in rural areas -- traffic is way in excess of what the roads were designed to handle in many places. Columbia is an exception. However, Howard County is IMHO going to go down in history within the next 20 years as having one of the more troubled police forces in Maryland, mostly due to exceptionally rapid growth. Their police culture is apparently still emerging and is in massive flux. It's sort of like a big-city police force without the big city. Montgomery County cops on the other hand are known for being very understated in most respects, but very good at dealing with serious crime, such as solving murders etc. Then again, I am starting to have my doubts as to their competence at dealing with Really Big Things, although that may be more a problem with leadership rather than ability. > 2. I hear that Frederick MD and Fredericksburg VA are pretty nice, or at least aren't totally fouled up yet. > > Take your pick. Pretty soon DC will be attracting more residents.
