If I were the only one on the road last night, > I'd probably be paranoid -- and be driving between 60 & 63! Understandable behavior when driving by yourself. It isn't fear of having an accident that leads many people to be paranoid of exceeding the speed limit when alone on the road. Regardless, I'm sure that packs of cars go at least as fast as you said at other times as well. But, as you might have read in posts on lowering the speed limit that I and the 3 people I referred to had a discussion about, you might have read that the main argument was that the VDOT conducted a study and found that a lower speed limit in the Roanoke area and Harrisonburg area was necessary for safety pending actual improvements on the road itself. In fact, I believe that both Bruce and John mentioned that the proportion of trucks vs cars was about 50/50 at times warranting a lower speed limit. If what you say is true, then the new speed limit has no purpose and shouldn't be there to be used against drivers who happen to be driving 70-75 mph by themselves at off peak times.
