And yet you still posted as you did. If you had read and understood them, you should have responded to the objections I posted, instead of exploding. Here's what I see happening. I'm on I-64 heading up to Williamsburg. Traffic is slow, and I want to get around. The left lane is open, so I slide over into it. Now, I can either hop from car to car, sliding into every opening, and then immediatly back out (something like a touch and go), or I can continue in the left lane for quite a while. Now, the cops pull me over for driving in the left lane, as I've driven too far to just be passing. > > I've found my blood pressure > > doesn't rise as much when I read things I disagree with in an objective > > point of view. > > Interestingly, my blood pressure doesn't rise a third as much when I *encounter* > people who can't understand lane use concepts on the road as much as it does > when I see people actually post things like "I'd be right pissed if I'm crawling > at 30mph on the right lane, and the left is open." > > If I come across as a raging driver who fumes behind left lane squatters and > considers violent retaliation, I assure you I am not. 99% of the time I just > swing right and pass. Most often the rightmost lane is EMPTY around here. Lane squatters are a significant problem. If I'm in the left lane, and someones closing up on me (which is seldom, as I don't tend to go slow as it is), I'll move over to let him through, then go back to where I was. Not a problem. > > 'm sure you'll disagree with me when you're done (as our > > viewpoints obviously differ), > > I will. > > > but you can at least do so after actually > > having read what I posted instead of looking for an excuse to whine. > > > "Keep right except to pass" is the law in every state that I have lived in. > Five simple words, not nuclear physics. Many can, but just don't think It's not that we don't grasp the concept, or can't follow the law, it's that we don't agree with the law (and yes, where it's the law, I think it should be followed, but I also don't think it should be law in the first place). > that it applies to them. Or assert that *they* choose what lane they will > travel in. It is a PASSING lane, not a travel lane. Not an "I'm going fast > enough" lane. <sigh> If there are too few lanes, that needs to be re-examined. > I concur with those folks who talked about driving in Europe. No, (its the law here too), > because it is taught and enforced, that is why. Dawdle in the left lane in > Germany and watch a 5000 lb Benz approach you at 150 mph in your rearview. > You'll rethink your views on using another "travel" lane. If I can't handle doing the 150 that the lane's going, I shouldn't be in that lane. -- sanjian@wido(you know the drill)maker.com http://www.widomaker.com/~sanjian President P.A.C.
