What did you expect? Warner might have sold himself as a businessman type democRAT but the voters should have asked themselves why this guy decided to enter politics as a "moderate" democRAT rather than a "moderate" Republican? The reason is, of course, that he wasn't/isn't a "moderate" at all! He has swallowed the left wing democRAT agenda 100%. We have only seen the beginning: whenever an issue comes up you can be sure that Warner will want to give the state more power over peoples' lives (e.g.: the seat belt legislation which he pushed) EXCEPT when it steps on the toes of groups favored by the left (e.g.: illegals wanting VA driver's licenses.) Notice that Warner has also pushed to the ending of VA single term limit for the chief executive of the state. He kept a state "water emergency" going well after the main problem became flooding. I believe, however, that Warner's "influence" is decreasing. He won BIG in Northern VA because he pushed for a extra local sales tax authorization (which would have required local voter approval.) But the local voters figured out that the road problems in No. VA are due more to lack of political leadership than the sales tax not being high enough. Warner, of course, has another ambition: he want's to be VA's "Senator for Life." Sen. Robb and Sen. John Warner were such but Robb couldn't keep his pants on or the white stuff out of his noise. John Warner is getting too old to give a damn. But if Mark Warner keeps getting on the silly side of the issues he will be DOA when he runs for Senate (Ollie North might even be able to beat him!) Trouble is (for M. Warner) that his political instincts automatically place him on the silly side of issues. SO I expect to hear little more from Mr. M. Warner until he turns on his well financed publicity machine and starts buying TV time on the Washington stations. Of course, the "Senator for Life" slot will not open until 2006 (Allen's slot) UNLESS Sen. John Warner leaves office a few years early. I suspect that M. Warner will use a little of his money to "encourage" or "permit" John Warner to retire a little early under circumstances that will permit a "Warner" to be soon replaced by another "Warner." It will be FUN TO WATCH.
