Cellphone Drivers Equivalent to Drunks

A University of Utah study claims that drivers who use a cell phone will be
'more impaired than drunken drivers with blood alcohol levels exceeding
0.08.' The study also says that use will turn a driver who is age 20 into
age 70. Hands-free systems apparently don't help much either as they still
require a driver to 'actively be part of a conversation.'

Just today I observed three vehicles swerving from lanes
and all three drivers were using cell phones. It's getting
ridiculous out there!

This says more about the 0.08 limit than it does about cell phones.

Ok so when are getting old people off the road; if i have to give up my
cell to get nana and papa off the road i will. Old people are much more
of a danger than cell phones.

Well the study said cell phones made young driver equivalent of a
senior behind the wheel. That is only while they are on the phone. The
senior is a senior from the start of the trip till finish. So the
senior is a less capable drive for a longer period of time. I have no
problem using my cell phone when I drive. However i use my hand device
and i pay attention to the roads. I think food is much more of
distraction than a cell phone.

Bzzzt! Reading conclusions into the study that aren't there!

This is not applicable support for your assertion, so I'll repeat my
request that you cite the source of your assertion.

You don't *think* that you do, but in fact, yes, you do. It's
quantifiable.

Fortunately for everyone, your guesses and opinions aren't science.

Yeah, that is the problem and I have been trying to break myself of the
habit of using the 'quick reply' thingy. Why it is even there I can't
imagine. I am doing better, I usually catch myself now before sending
and redo it.

This is from the study in question I have other sources I assumed this
was common knowledge that senior are a hazard on the road. Strayer said
they found that when 18- to-25-year-olds were placed in a driving
simulator and talked on a cellular phone, they reacted to brake lights
from a car in front of them as slowly as 65- to 74-year-olds who<> were
not using a cell phone.

Pretty good concentration to determine "email on a Blackberry" while traveling
in
a moving vehicle.

Maybe your dentist should've had his eyes on the road!
