Biker charged in Transit driver attack

Canada - A Hells Angel is accused of beating up a Winnipeg Transit
driver after allegedly coming to the aid of a teenage boy being held
for police. Dale Donovan, 30, who allegedly claimed to be the boy's
father, was arrested Monday and charged with assault, according to
court records.

The bizarre incident began near the corner of St. Anne's Road and
Fermor Avenue in St. Vital shortly before 10 p.m. Friday when several
youths threw unidentified objects at a passing Transit bus, shattering
a side window.

No one inside the bus was injured, but a female passenger seated next
to the window was startled, police said last week.

The bus driver and a male passenger, intent on making a citizen's
arrest, chased the youths and collared two of them -- a 14-year-old
boy and a 15-year-old boy -- a short distance away.

While the bus driver waited for police, a man and woman claiming to be
one of the boy's parents arrived and demanded the 14-year-old be
released.

ARRESTED BOY

When the driver refused to let go of the younger teen, the parents
allegedly assaulted him and fled with the 14-year-old boy.

Police arrived a short time later and arrested the 15-year-old boy,
who faces a mischief charge.

Several hours later, cops caught up with the 14-year-old boy and his
39-year-old mother.

The mom faces an assault charge while her son faces a charge of
mischief. The bus driver, who couldn't be reached for comment, wasn't
seriously injured.

Police said he was within his rights to make a citizen's arrest.

Donovan, who is also charged with failure to comply with conditions of
a recognizance, declined comment yesterday from the Winnipeg Remand
Centre.

It was unclear yesterday whether Donovan is the biological father or a
legal guardian of the 14-year-old boy.

It's the second time this month that the outlaw biker has been
charged.

Donovan was arrested with Zig Zag Crew member Dustin Feniuk on April 5
after police raided a Vivian Avenue bungalow and seized an emulsion
explosive stick, a loaded .44-calibre semi-automatic pistol, a
.22-calibre semi-automatic pistol, hollow-point ammunition capable of
piercing a bullet-proof vest, a small amount of marijuana and a pain
killer known as Percocet.

About 20 bus operators are assaulted annually, according to Transit
statistics.

Earlier this month a city bus driver was suspended for three days
after he defended himself against an unruly passenger who would not
leave the bus. The union has filed a grievance.

Dale Donovan was also present at a homicide scene where a former
member of the Zig Zag crew was shot dead a few years back.
