Hi all, A friend has a little problem with some TK-50 tapes... Yeah, he put them in a drive,:-( , and the drive SEEMS to have erased the header/pre-amble from the tapes the drive has ee replaced and now he can't read the tapes. So, is it AT ALL possile to recover the its off the tapes i this case? Can the TK-50 be conned into reading the tape and ignoring the lack of pre-amble? Can someone in DEC do this for them if need be? They have a lot of mass-spectrometer data they realy would like back. Reply by mail, will summarize... ~Paul

In fact we can even get it to set the ' volume valid ' bit to mount it. So, is it possible to set a TMSCP equivalent of the disk ' allow self destruct' unit online comand? or some such. Is there any way to force the drive to keep going in spite of 'fatal' errors? ~Paul
