RQDXE switches for 3 RD drives

I'm trying to configure a 3rd RD disk to a RQDX3 on a MV-II.

The RQDXE manual says it can support 4, but doesn't give the switch settings.

Configuration:
                 MV-II RQDX3 --- to RQDXE #1 (input)

 		 RQDXE #1
                  INTERNAL(J1) --- to DUA0 (CPU BA23)
 		    INPUT (J2) --- from RQDX3
 	          EXTERNAL(J3) --- to RQDXE #2

 		 RQDXE #2
                  INTERNAL(J1) --- to DUA1 (CPU BA23-C)
 		    INPUT (J2) --- from RQDXE #1
 	          EXTERNAL(J3) --- to RD54-D

 		 RD54-D (external drive)
                  INTERNAL(J1) --- to DUA2 (same box)
 		    INPUT (J2) --- from RQDXE #2
 	          EXTERNAL(J3) --- empty

The default switch settings are used for RQDXE#1. There doesn't seem
to be any switches on any of the drives. (including RD54-D) What I
need is DIP switches for the second RQDXE.

The manual gives configurations w/o descriptions and both DEC's 800# and
local field service haven't been much help so far.

 						thanks.... Robert

I've never seen two RQDXE's used in a chain. Doesn't mean it can't be done,
though. Think of the RQDXE as a switch that steers individual drive selection
to one or the other external connector. There are also some options for setting
whether or not the connected devices are floppies or hard disks (had disks need
ready/write protect support a little differently).

So, you'd set the first RQDXE to send one drive select (likely DS3) to the
CPU BA23's drive, and the other 3 (1, 2, and 4) to the second RQDXE. The second
RQDXE will send DS4 to the BA23-C expander and route DS1 and DS2 off to the
expansion box, but translated to DS3 and DS4 (you need this because the expan-
der [RD5x-D] box only responds to DS3 and DS4).
