I'm posting this for someone who doesn't have access to VMSNET. Please
reply to rane@saathi.ncst.ernet.in. I'm going to try changing the followup-to
address to direct mail to him.

This must be that time of the year when people need to be reminded

IF YOU DON'T DESCRIBE THE ERROR, WE CAN'T DESCRIBE THE
	SOLUTION.

OH DUH, and what does "but no luck" mean??? What kind
of VMS error is "but no luck"???

#Will you suggest some new idea.I tried $sys$manager:startup

Here's a new idea: VMS shops should quit hiring bozos.

If these are the kind of people who are getting connected,
	perhaps they should be disconnected.

I think REPLY/ENABLE might fix the problem, but I agree that the poster
should have included an error message.

Ehud,

Did you even TRY to contact the individual for whom I posted the message to get
more information? Did you even READ the message? I CLEARLY stated that the
individual in question did NOT have access to the VMSNET.SYSMGT group and that
ALL exchanges should go by electronic mail, not by replies to this group.

Perhaps instead of excersizing your mouth, you should try excersizing your
eyes, even better your mind. If you haven't got anything to contribute to the
discussion, how about staying quiet. I don't tolerate fools either, but you're
not helping your credibility with the net with these kind of uncalled for
flames.

A more appropriate response would have been an exchange of mail messages with
<rane@saathi.ncst.ernet.in>, a solution to his problem posted to the net
after you know what his detailed problem was, and THEN a diatribe that people
who post questions provide enough information. I would certainly have been
impressed by that. As it is, I just find your attitude childish, at best.

Besides, he stated quite clearly that he had deleted his operator log and
couldn't get it created again. I find that a pretty clear statement of the
problem. Had I known the solution (or been able to recreate the problem
on a 5.4 system) I would have given it to him directly insteading of going to
the trouble of the post.

Dick, you're treading over the line sending your consulting/clients
issues to the net for solution. Don't expect me to make your $$$ for you.

#Besides, he stated quite clearly that he had deleted his operator log and

That's why you are posting these stupid questions to the net. Read
my lips: there is no problem description there.

WHAT DID HE TRY AND HOW DID IT FAIL THAT HE COULD
	NOT RECREATE THE OPERATOR.LOG???

That would have been a real problem description.

#Had I known the solution (or been able to recreate the problem

No duh. AS I ALREADY SAID, IF HE HAD GIVEN ENOUGH INFORMATION TO BE
ABLE TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM (WHY HE CAN'T CREATE OPERATOR.LOG) THEN
YOU COULD HAVE RECREATED IT.

Just because you ALMOST had the answer and would have IF ONLY you
could have recreated the problem means it wasn't described in the
first place:

"Help, I've deleted my operator.log and can't recreate it.
	I tried @systartup" IS NOT A PROBLEM DESCRIPTION. IT'S
A BOZO DESCRIPTION and you're a bozo for continuing it.
