Just read in Saturday's West Australian that the current ABCtv newsreader Deborah Kennedy is getting the arse from reading the weeknight news bulletin in favour of Tom Baddeley (who appears on the news currently doing the business reports and also anchors the WA edition of Stateline on Friday nights). Baddeley had recently resigned from the ABC to go work for the Aust Financial Review but withdrew the resignation when he was offered the newsreaders job by the ABC's WA boss Kim Jordan who said he didn't want Baddeley to leave the ABC. Jordan has offered Deborah Kennedy the jobs of reading the news on radio, which I've already heard her doing on occasions, or becoming a "senior tv reporter", whatever that means. Apparently Deborah Kennedy is a bit pissed off and is thinking about legal action, there's talk of a staff revolt at the ABC in Perth over it and the Friends of the ABC are a bit against it also. Rebecca Carmody will replace Baddeley but the article doesn't say in which of his current roles, or both. The crappy website for the West Australian newspaper, www.thewest.com.au , doesn't have a link to the story. Anyway I reckon Kennedy is by far the better news anchor of the two, Baddeley is OK in the business report slot but he comes accross as a bit of a geek in the Stateline job and is a bit of a dud interviewer I reckon. This is pertinent coz the article said he would be doing live interviews with "the major newsmakers of the day" in the anchoring role. Why we need goofy live questions in the anchoring role I don't know and can't see why Kennedy couldn't do it anyway. A few people have registered their disapproval at the ABC's guestbook site: http://www2b.abc.net.au/perth/guestbook/default.shtm .

Undoubtably the most professional news anchor on Oz television today. I would have thought that the offers would be pouring in from the eastern states. She has a 'presence' that very few anchors are blessed with. I, for one, couldn't believe she has been fired!!!!! Completely agree with comments. Hard to see what advantage Tom has over Deborah - he always looks like he was lucky to get the Business Report.

Verity James quite rightly got sick (literally) of working radio 5 days and weekends on TV. So she just does radio now :-(. Peter Holland went to CH 9 to read the news with Tina Altieri (hope he got paid lots for that) but when he took holiday several months ago CH 9 tried the all girl news team and demoted him to weekends when he returned from holiday. He resigned soon afterwards and I hear hes lecturing at Uni now. I agree Tom always seems stilted reading news and his interviews are piss weak "steam3801" <tryspammingthis@optusnet.com.au> wrote in message news:ffdd20le92sr5vss28esjpe7v5at0ddg33@4ax.com... > On 8 Feb 2004 06:36:20 -0800, rosswa@my-deja.com (Ross) - in a > blinding flash of brilliance - wrote: > > >Just read in Saturday's West Australian that the current ABCtv > >newsreader Deborah Kennedy is getting the arse from reading the > >weeknight news bulletin in favour of Tom Baddeley (who appears on the > >news currently doing the business reports and also anchors the WA > >edition of Stateline on Friday nights). > > > >Baddeley had recently resigned from the ABC to go work for the Aust > >Financial Review but withdrew the resignation when he was offered the > >newsreaders job by the ABC's WA boss Kim Jordan who said he didn't > >want Baddeley to leave the ABC. > > > >Jordan has offered Deborah Kennedy the jobs of reading the news on > >radio, which I've already heard her doing on occasions, or becoming a > >"senior tv reporter", whatever that means. > > > >Apparently Deborah Kennedy is a bit pissed off and is thinking about > >legal action, there's talk of a staff revolt at the ABC in Perth over > >it and the Friends of the ABC are a bit against it also. > > > >Rebecca Carmody will replace Baddeley but the article doesn't say in > >which of his current roles, or both. > > > >The crappy website for the West Australian newspaper, > >www.thewest.com.au , doesn't have a link to the story. > > > >Anyway I reckon Kennedy is by far the better news anchor of the two, > >Baddeley is OK in the business report slot but he comes accross as a > >bit of a geek in the Stateline job and is a bit of a dud interviewer I > >reckon.
