Kerry would ration healthcare & raise taxes There is much unspoken in John Kerry's plan for our healthcare system. His plans would require such a tremendous increase in funding that increasing taxes alone would be insufficient. He would also have to implement a rationing system for healthcare delivery. There is no other way to do what Kerry plans. You cannot just add tens of millions of people to the healthcare rolls without providing adequate funding. There is no free lunch. You get what you pay for. Unfortunately, what Kerry plans to do would bring us all higher taxes and rationed healthcare. What is rationed healthcare? Here's an example. Your 78 year old mother is in the hospital for a broken hip. They place a catheter in her so they don't have to change the bed. She gets a urinary tract infection, so the doctors prescribe an antibiotic which cures the urinary tract infection but causes diarrhea which turns out to be an infection in the intestinal tract. The doctor prescribes the cheapest medication rather that the most effective medication. The medication is hard on the stomach and your mother stops eating, she loses a lot of weight and the infection gets worse. Now the antibiotic can't cure the infection but it slows it down. But your mother can't regain the lost weight. The doctor writes "failure to thrive" in your mother's chart. Soon the nurses begin to tell you that your mother has lived a good long life. You wonder why they say this. Your mother's diarrhea returns and the doctors treat her with the cheapest antibiotic, which makes her feel sick and she refuses food and she loses more weight. Now she is skin and bones and miserable. The doctors tell you she has lived a good long life. You see the words "failure to thrive" in her chart again. Then the doctor tells you that your mother is wasting away because she is not eating. Your mother is in pain and she yells at the nurses. The nurses begin to pay less attention to your mother. One day the doctor gives you the business card of a social worker and suggests that you consider hospice for your mother. The doctor says it isn't fair that your mother should be in such pain. He says she has no quality of life. The social worker is eager to talk to you, to transfer your mother that very day if possible. She assures you that your mother will feel no pain... This is the type of rationed healthcare that is in store for us if John Kerry is allowed to re-engineer our healthcare system. Healthcare providers will be forced by limited resources to make a judgement about how much care each of their patients is entitled to and to provide healthcare that will best satisfy the bottom line. And if they judge that you have lived a "good long life" they may well be less likely to give you the best of care. Think about it. It comes down to limited resources. Who gets the best care? the children, mothers, fathers or the elderly? Which would you choose with limited resources? Is this what you want in your future? John Kerry would be a disaster for our healthcare system. There is still time to vote! Get out and vote now!
