Wisconsin Dells meets "The Truman Show"--a bit of whimsey...

Many of you may, doubtless, be aware of that movie of the hour known as "The
Truman Show" (as stars Jim Carey in the role of Truman Burbank, whose life for
30 years previous had been made the subject of a virtually-continuous, live,
satellite-delivered TV show seen the world over--essentially placing Truman at
the mercy of network executive Kristof).

And many of you as visit Wisconsin Dells from year to year will notice that
channel 12 on the cable-TV system there runs continuously (during the summer)
a somewhat sappy pseudo-mockumentary called "Wisconsin Dells: The
Entertainment Network," essentially a device aimed in furtherance of the
Passport to Pleasure scheme (itself online at
http://www.wisconsindells-savings.com).

The which, essentially, has led me to imagine (howbeit whimsically, and all
this being a fantasy in my brain) what it would be like if Wisconsin Dells
were essentially THE inspiration for a cable/satellite TV channel running
continuously during the summer season, roughly from May to the Wo-Zha-Wa
weekend?

Call it, for the sake of convenience, "The Wisconsin Dells Channel."

Essentially containing all Wisconsin Dells, all the time.

Featuring what could be the best elements of that cable-channel 12 thing in
Wisconsin Dells, howbeit without overdone repetition. Instead, featuring a
mix of roving reporters, MTV-like studio sessions, commentary on the world
scene from the Wisconsin Dells perspective, and various musical selections
combined with live footage from in and around Wisconsin Dells, with cameras
installed at various strategic locations, including at the Upper and Lower
Dells docks...

at the Jaws of the Upper Dells...

at Stand Rock...

looking down upon Broadway...

at the Lower Dells junction...

maybe occasional aerial shots along Dells Parkway and even into the several
wavepools there...

And, to add variety, interviews in the vein of a pre-Wisconsin Dells
incarnation of Tommy Bartlett (cf. "Welcome Travelers") from some of the
better restaurants, gift shops, even along Broadway strollers. (Come to think
of it, you could even imagine some commentary coming from that viewing deck
at Giftland Plaza at the Upper Dells docks, or even at BJ's Restaurant's
patio, all quite informal and casual, as a counter to the sappy
breakfast-time shows on the networks, with the occasional interview among the
Interesting People as visit Wisconsin Dells every summer.)

Not exactly your fly-on-the-wall documentary, nor your overwrought
"infomercial" of a late-night exploitative sort.

Way beyond that.

But then again, not exactly "The Truman Show" made manifest.

Actually, more like a hybrid of "The Truman Show" grafted upon "Wisconsin
Dells: The Entertainment Network" with elements of MTV thrown in for good
measure--yet not being too overpowering in its effects.
