This was hotly debated at the time VCR's were being introduced wasn't it? And the disclaimers usually say that unauthorized * public * viewing ( which I always took for a mass public audience that may be paying a fee or in an establishment thats possibly making money selling tickets, cover charge, alchohol, etc,) is prohibited, don't recall it saying personal viewing is not allowed.
