Guitar Lessons for serious career-minded and amateur players. For the player who wants to improve his/her improvising concept, reading abilities, technique and overall understanding of the jazz idiom (without necessarily being a "jazz" player). Topics covered include: Chord construction, chord form fingering and chord chart reading. Fretting hand techniques...position (ie. vertical) playing, single string (ie. horizontal) playing, string bending, hammer-ons, pull-offs, slurs etc. Pick hand techniques....alternate picking, sweep picking, pick + fingers (for chord melody) and a little bit of finger-style (not classical technique). Improvising: via modal chord scales, arpeggios, typical melodic techniques (ie. passing tones, appoggiaturas, tensions etc.), the blues scale, pentatonic scales, symmetrical and synthetic scales, thematic development etc. Jazz repertoire development. Sight reading and studio styles. Guitar set-up, tuning, whammy bars etc. About Myself I have been performing and teaching around Toronto for 15 years. My name is Joey Goldstein. I attended Berklee College of Music (Boston) in the mid 70's and had the privilege to study with Pat Metheny, Mick Goodrick, Gary Burton, William G. Leavitt and others. I've been free-lancing ever since and have performed and/or recorded as a side-man with the following: Jazz Artists: Ron Allen, Ralph Bowen, Freeflight Big Band, Michael Farquharson, Darcy Hepner, Graeme Kirkland, Doug Riley and many others. Pop Artists: Vivienne Williams, Patsy Gallant, Liberty Silver, Paul Christopher, George Oliver, Della Reese, Billy Newton-Davis, Molly Johnson, Sherry Jaecocke, Bobby Herriot and many others. I've also recorded 2 albums as a leader/composer: The Joey Goldstein Band - Time's Square....featuring Boko Suzuki (keyboards), Mark Kelso (drums) and Michael Farquharson (bass). (1988) Joey Goldstein & Friends - A Strange Little Tune....featuring Doug Riley (piano), Michael Farquharson (bass) and Vito Rezza (drums). (1993) I've been teaching guitar/improvisation in the Mohawk College (Hamilton) Jazz Program for 10 years as well as privately. Some of my better known students have included Ian McNally (Amanda Marshall Band), Andy Scott (One Step Beyond), Jason Reed (Leslie Spit Trio) and Fergus Hambleton (Sattalites). Lessons are $35.00 per hour....once every 2 weeks. Joey Goldstein (416) 487-0212 joegold@ican.net Check out: http://www.icom.ca/~freeflt/
