Schools Seeking Creative Fundraiser Invited to Join Global Video Game
Contest
Fairfield, IA Schools looking for a creative fundraiser are invited to
join the electronic gaming industrys most famous video game contest
scheduled for the weekend of April 19-20, 1997.
The 1997 Video Game & Pinball Masters Tournament invites students at
all schools to compete on three popular home console systems: the Nintendo
64, Sony Playstation, and Sega Saturn with the resulting scores included
in a new book: Twin Galaxies Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World
Records (ISBN # 1-887472-25-8).
Walter Day, scorekeeper for the event, says this event can raise funds by
collecting entry fees from the students. Plus, businesses can pledge money
towards winners scores. Also, schools should expect a wonderful side-
effect: a boost in school spirit as students make the record book
individually or as a school team.
In addition to high scores achieved by individual students, a special
section in the record book will compare the performances of the
participating schools teams in a final chart of standings.
During the contest, Twin Galaxies will be in contact with the contest
sites via Internet email or by 800# phone lines, giving up-to-the minute
reports on how local players are doing in the standings. This can inspire
the local media to become very involved. Twin Galaxies agrees to publish
the top ten winners (all locations will be combined) on every game in the
new book of world records.
The Video Game & Pinball Masters Tournament is the worlds most famous
high-score contest for video and pinball. This competition was televised
under different names by ABC-TVs Thats Incredible in 1983 and
Entertainment Tonight in 1985 and was published in the 1984-87 editions
of the U.S. Guinness Book of World Records.
The Twin Galaxies Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records.
was inspired by Days years as an assistant editor in charge of video game
scores for the Guinness Book of World Records. My reputation as the
official scorekeeper for the world of video game and pinball playing
caught the attention of the Guinness editors in 1983, says Day.
Guinness wanted to publish Twin Galaxies scores because video games and
pinball were their most requested subject matter. However, when the
publishing rights to the U.S. edition reverted back to the Guinness
headquarters in England, video games were dropped as a category.
Later, Day was again asked by Guinness to supply them with scores.
Instead, Day decided it was time to open Twin Galaxies vaults and put 15
years of score keeping into an annual book: the Official Video Game &
Pinball Book of World Records.
Twin Galaxies Book of World Records will crown the top ten champions on
every pinball, home game, network game, computer game, and arcade game
ever made. The only book of its kind, this volume is to electronic game
playing what the Guinness Book is to athletic excellence. By establishing
electronic gaming as a sport, this book of scores is destined to become
the official Bible of world records for the entire world of computer
gaming.
Twin Galaxies Book of World Records explains the rules of organized
video game and pinball playing and has a special chapter explaining How
To Get Into This Book! The book will be unveiled in Chicago, May 30, 1997
at Book Expo-- the official convention for the American Booksellers
Association. For more information on the book, contact Deborah Roberts at
Sunstar Publishing, Ltd. at (800)532-4734.
Any school wishing to join should email Walter Day at wday@telegroup.com
or call Twin Galaxies (515-472-3882) as soon as possible to request a
media kit. Schools communicating by fax can reach Walter Day at (515)472-
0845.
The Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard has been the official
scorekeeper for the world of video game and pinball playing since 1982
and has enjoyed media appearances in RePlay Magazine, Playmeter Magazine,
LIFE magazine, Marvel comics, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Playboy
and the Washington Post. For more information, contact Walter Day at Twin
Galaxies (515)472-3882. Or email Walter Day at wday@telegroup.com
