Visual Basic 2.0 is dead and has been for quite some time now.  It is 
completely different from VB 4.0 and 5.0 (which is about to come out).

Yes, however, languages like C, C++ and Java are pretty hard to learn, 
especially for a non-programmer.

I would start learning VB 5.0 or maybe 4.0. And then maybe later move on 
to something harder like Java.

Read a book, bought the software, and started programming.

Get a good book, and start doing the examples from it.  Then start making 
your own programs.
