If you want to learn how to program, I suggest learning Pascal.  Pascal
may be dead, but it is easy to learn. Programs written in Pascal are
easy to translate into other languages like C, C++, Java, and Visual
Basic (Yuck).  In my opinion, what makes Pascal easy to learn is that
the keywords are straightforward English words.  Even if you haven't
written a program, you can get a general idea of what the program is
supposed to do.

When you are ready, I suggest Java, or C/C++.
