About the time that Bill 167 (the failed same-sex spouse act) was being debated in the Ontario legislature, two articles appeared in the Toronto Star. The one in favour of the bill cited numerous studies to support her case, the one against (by the debarred psychiatrist Paul Cameron) cited not one. Here are a few studies supporting the fact that children raised by same-sex couples are just as well-adjusted as those raised by opposite-sex couples: Tasker, F. and S. Golombok (1995) Adults raised as children in lesbian families. American Journal of Orthopsychiatry 65(2):203-215. Patterson, C.J. (1992) Children of lesbian and gay parents. Child Development 63:1025-1042. Golombok, S. and F. Tasker (in press) Children in lesbian and gay families: theories and evidence. Annual Review of Sex Research. Huggins, S.L. (1989) A comparative study of self-esteem of adolescent children of divorced lesbian mothers and divorced heterosexual mothers. In F. Bozett (ed.) Homosexuality and the Family, pp. 123-135. Bozett, F. and M.B. Sussman (eds.) Homosexuality and Family Relations. New York: Harrington Park Press. > Meanwhile, 300+ studies show the flaws of parenting not reared under a > mother and father. As someone else has pointed out, these studies refer to *single-parent* families, not same-sex couples. Please cite some studies showing that children raised by same-sex couples are less well-adjusted than opposite-sex couples. James
