Job Description:
We are looking for up to 5 self-motivated individuals to join our
Development team, at both Principal Developer and Senior Developer level

The Principal Developer position is one which carries the same grade &
salary as the Project Manager position within the Development Services
department. The position is not primarily a technical one, but involves a
high degree of analysis skills, preferably gained within a financial
services environment. The Principal Developer is also expected to manage
individual projects (though without formal staff responsibility). Candidates
may also have a technical background (IBM mainframe preferred, COBOL, JCL
etc - however we are prepared to retrain), but primarliy the Principal
Developer should have a good, working knowledge of the Development
Lifecycle.

The Senior Developer will have similar skills. though at a slightly more
junior level. Again, a background in financial services would be a benefit,
since the successful candidate will spend a majority of his / her time on
analysis, particularly writing design & specification documents. However any
technical ability of the successful candidate will also be put to good use.

The Principal Developer role is seen as an alternative career path to that
of Project Manager within Scottish Equitable plc, giving capable people the
chance to reach a senior role without the responsibilities of formal staff
management. We would expect good candidates to have had at least 5-6 years'
experience of the IT industry. Senior Developers would usually have 4-5
years' experience.
