Job Title: Strategy Analyst (Networking / Comms)

Job Description:

A post has arisen in the Desktop Strategy section of IS for a Strategy
Analyst with responsibility for low level networking and communications in a
LAN and WAN environment with particular emphasis on IP and associated
technologies such as DHCP, DNS and Firewalls. Reporting to the Desktop
Strategy Manager, the successful applicant will be involved in the
evaluation of new technologies in the networking and communications hardware
and software arenas. The setting of company standards in conjunction with
various technical support departments and internal customers will also form
a major part of this position's responsibilities.


Key skills
Advanced DOS, Windows (3.x,95,NT) and OS/2 operating system skills.
In depth understanding of a multi-protocol (LLC, NetBIOS, NetBEUI, TCP/IP)
LAN and WAN environment.
In depth understanding of firewalls, bandwidth reservation and IP security
technologies.
In depth knowledge of networking infrastructure hardware and software;
switches, routers hubs etc. IBM and Madge hardware in particular.
Strong knowledge of past and present IBM desktop and portable hardware.
Strong knowledge of systems management software in a LAN and WAN
environment.

Applicants will also be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational,
planning, report writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
