I have Adobe Reader 8.1.2 installed and this morning, somebody in 
another group mentioned that there's a security update available for the 
program. I opened Reader and clicked on the Help menu to check for 
updates, but the menu item "Check for Updates" is missing!

Thinking that one of the many tweaks I've had to perform on Reader in 
order to make it usable might have been responsible for the missing menu 
item, I totally uninstalled Reader 8 and even went into Windows Explorer 
and deleted all remaining files and folders.

Then I freshly installed the program from scratch.

To my amazement, after going through this tedious and *extremely* time 
consuming process, the menu item is still missing!

God DAMN I hate this program. It's the kind of bloat that destroys 
Adobe's credibility and reputation. If I didn't need it to read .pdf 
files, it would be long gone. Adobe seriously needs to see a doctor 
about their bad case of rectal-cranial inversion. And yes, I've looked 
at all the other alternatives. They all suck in some regard, and worse 
than Reader.

Can you tell I'm pissed off and frustrated?

At any rate, any help in fixing this problem will be very much appreciated.
