Having been on a 56k connection this summer, ah, next week back to a high-speed connection <...starting to drool uncontrolably...> I have enough time to go make a sandwich between entering a new world and seeing it. If I remember correctly, d-loading the plugin and a world gave me enough time to run to the store and back.

This is still quicker than using a 56k hook-up and the old stand-alone player; where I had to build a world devoid of textures and objects linked to HomeWorld, just so that I could enter, see everyone and chat.

This is not just a hindrance for Atmo. My normal surfing has been restricted a lot the last weeks on 56k, as I don't even bother visiting a lot of the sites I would regularly go to on a high-speed connection.

The upside to this is that I've had the computer to myself this summer, as my eighteen year old goes to his sister's house to use her high-speed connection and my wife doesn't even bother using it anymore. Ebay's a bite using 56k. :)
