I've been involved in many IT dept versus client standoffs. The IT department are there to provide a satisfactory service and should be subtly reminded of the fact. The standoff should be made an opportunity to hand the whole problem to them, with your involvement limited to accepting or rejecting, or used as an excuse to up the spec of whatever items such as soundcards that you want. I don't see what the problem is, as my experience is that most current decent soundcards and external audio interfaces do have WDM and ASIO drivers. On site here I have interfaces from Echo Audio, M-Audio, E-MU, Tascam and Edirol. Some of them are old but where they have been superseded the current versions all still have dual drivers.
