Hello,I've been trying to get the best quality audio for interviews that i conduct on my podcasts for a while now. I've been using an analog telephone with a cheap phone box, but the buzzing that came through on those interviews was too much to take. I've decided to switch to Skype for my phone recordings. I have a SoundMAX Digital Audio sound card, so I select the "Wave out mix" to let input sound record from Skype in Audition. My problem comes when I want to talk. The only thing I can do currently is to quickly switch back to the microphone recording option in volume control when I want to input sound from my mic. Obviously, this is quite a hassle and always cuts a bit of the response off. I have my mics routed through a Powerpod mixer with four inputs. Any help or suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.

It's a bit laid back, but have a listen to 'Building the Pod' episode 123, which you can find here <http://www.audio2u.com/?p=757>. Fortunately you have a small mixer - and I have to say that when using skype, these are invaluable. It's relatively straightforward to arrange that your studio mic gets recorded to one channel of Audition, and the caller/interviewee to the other, and since there are often quality/level issues with remotes done this way, having them separated is good, because you can sort out the caller without interfering with your studio mic signal. I think that information about how to hook this up is is what's on that particular issue, but I know that Bruce also refers to an earlier edition too - maybe that's worth looking out as well.

I've just located a pdf I created ages ago for somebody about using skype with an external mixer - you can download it from here <http://www.garnett-associates.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/recording_skype_calls_with_audition.pdf/>. This may be of some use, but you need to study it carefully...

Thanks for the posts Steve, I've got a much better understanding of how recording from Skype works now. But I think I've stumbled across another problem with my set-up. When I set my sound device to record from the line in, I can achieve no sound from my microphones. My recording input is usually set to microphone and other than a slight buzz that constantly hums through my recording, I have no trouble. I don't understand this though, as my microphones are routed through my mixer which is connected to my line input on the computer. I cannot begin recording this way through Skype until I've determined why I cannot record at present from my line input. If anyone out there has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You probably just need to change the input selection in the recording part of the Windows Mixer. Make sure that it's got a check in the 'line' input, and not in anything else, though - especially avoid anything like 'What you hear'...
