How are you plugging your guitar into your laptop? Are you using the on board soundcard? What is the manufacturer and spec of the laptop? Some manufacturers disable the input monitoring function whilst you are recording to protect from misuse.

You might find that Options -> Monitoring -> Audition Mix is what you need to select. Ideally you need a Guitar or audio interface that provides direct monitoring of the input microphone or instrument. With this you have far less hassle with latency. Look at the spec of, for example, the Tascam US-122L. I'm not familiar with the Behringer unit and descriptions of it are a bit vague, but it seems to lack the direct monitor function.

Whoops! Wild Duck didn't see that this is a 1.5 thread, and that option doesn't exist. You need to set up direct monitoring in the mixer applet for your sound device - if it's the Windows applet, you need to set the playback section so that it's monitoring the actual input you are recording from, not just playing wav files.

Sang Nira Im using the vista business now i got the exact problem you have but earlier i was using home premium and if you connect your guitar from mic port and then open sound recorder from startmenu (you know) also you have to choose the mic from ''recording devices'' before you open sound recorder and i know sounds crazy but i found it and it worked, open a mp3 file with winamp or gom player etc. then while its playing hit the PAUSE on player. So hit the strings.I hope this helps you.If you find some thing helps me please post IM using vista business HP PAvilion dv5 1040et (IDM SOUND CODEC(ON BOARD))

Sang, I would ignore the previous post - it has nothing to do with your difficulty at all, and has nothing to do with using Audition. I checked the Behringer manual, and as far as I can tell, you have to use the Windows Mixer to set up the monitoring, as I described. But, since you are using a USB device with AA1.5 and Vista, things might not go that smoothly - and that would be Vista's fault.

Sang, apologies for not realising you were asking about AA 1.5 and misleading you. I feel that I should repeat, though, that you really need to be able to monitor the guitar at the input end of things, which means using a usb or other interface that provides source monitoring. I've now looked at the Behringer manual and it doesn't look as if that unit does this (although it's a bit unclear). I do exactly what you are trying to do ie record electric or acoustic guitar together with other instruments by recording multiple tracks and monitoring on headphones. There is a reason why there are so many small usb units with a couple of channels and mic and guitar inputs - they make this very easy. The manuals are available online from the likes of Tascam and Edirol and are worth a look.

Sang Make sure that you (in XP) go to control panel->sound and Audio Devices-> Then in the volume tab you will see a box that reads: device volume Click on the Advanced... button within that "Device Volume" Box Then Volume Control window pops up- within that window go to options->properties and in the box that says "adjust volume for" make sure the drop down box is set to playback and ensure that both mic and line in options are checked if one or both aren't- click on the check boxes to enable them. now you should be able to hear what your playing while recording to Audition I used this routine to set up a headset mic and it worked well Hope this guide helps Good Luck
