"Seems silly to use $1000 application as a UI for a scanner that costs less than $100" Yep, plus the Canon "toolbox" was handy for other scanner uses, too. (Faxing, copying, etc.) I deleted the latest Canon Toolbox software and reinstalled the older toolbox that came on disc with the scanner. It works fine with Mac OS X 10.5.6. Strange that the newer TB doesn't. I'll give Canon an "A" for effort in the customer service department, though. Direct emails from me have been replied to promptly and personally. The only suggestion I haven't tried that Canon suggests is moving the scanner connection from a USB hub directly to the computer. Might check out VueScan anyway.
