Hi there, Let me start of by saying that I do not know if this is the correct place to post this question. If there is a better place, please guide me in that direction. Currently we do not use Version Cue or a Digital Assets Manager. But would like to do so, hence this question. What we have now is a folder on a server. That folder consist of the following: -Design --Concept --Concept images --Old --PDF --Copy --Reference -Production --To Print --HR images --Artwork --Old --PDF --Reference --Copy And here is our workflow: A designer finds some images on, lets say, Shutterstock. Places the LowRes files in Concept Images. Account places the Word text files in Copy. The designer makes a design in InDesign and places it in Concept. After a few different concepts one is approved, the old ones go to Old. And the approved concept goes to Production/Artwork. There it is renamed and numbered for reference. After each stage a PDF is made, and placed in Production/PDF and e-mailed to the appropriate account of the job. Account then renames the PDF to an appropriate name for the client. Then corrections come, artwork file is numbered up, PDF is made etc. When the artwork is approved and final, it is collected and put in the To Print folder (which in its turn is archived). All in all quite an intensive process. We where thinking that this could be largely automated (streamlines) with the use of a Database. Is there a proof of concept for a situation like this (seems to me like quite a normal work method for a design agency). Is VersionCue designed for something like this? We have used CS since the start, but like many, never had a look at VersionCue. Thanks in advance for any reply.

There are a few places VC could help with this workflow. 1) Remove old versions of files. Instead of having to number your files based on versions, or keep track of the new or old ones, you just have a single file that is always the latest. If you need to review the older versions, you can go back to a previous version and review to your heart's content. 2) Metadata. You can also tag files with xmp metadata in bridge, and search on it in bridge/vc in order to do things like see the approval status of an item, find all unapproved items for a client, etc. There isn't a whole lot of built in automation regarding moving files from a to be based on rules (although you could build that on top of bridge), but you could also look into VC PDF review as a way of getting more out of emailing pdfs to clients. The only problem with PDF review is that it requires Acrobat Professional on the client's machine, rather than just the author's.
