Rotating an EPS error

When I rotate an EPS file I get the following error...

"Could not process the request because the command 'rotate' is unknown for the current content holder or not licensed."

Can I not rotate EPS files or is it because I'm using an evaluation copy of GS?

Thanks.

AGS can't rotate EPS files. There's a convention in the Commands Reference that shows the supported input types for each command and the output type. As in:

rotate
 Rotates an image.
 Content Types
 Input: Raster </>
 Output: Raster

(Input Raster means PSD or TIFF)

The option would be to first use the convertPSToRaster command and then rotate the image. A possibly unwanted side effect is that vectors are converted to bit-maps.

Ok... Rats. How do I make a feature request?

For the things I'd like to do, it would be nice if GS could operate more like Photoshop when it came to things like rotate, crop, convertProfile etc. I really don't want to convert to raster (and convert vectors to bitmaps) then back to eps to do these operations.

You can make AGS features requests at:
 <http://www.adobe.com/support/products/graphicsserver.html>

In Adobe Document Server, you can do this with:
- convertPSToPDF
- rotatePages
- convertPDFToEPS

This process will maintain vectors and the output image is still editable in Adobe Illustrator

I convert the EPS to raster before the rotate but I noticed that the resolution is lost when it is converted.

<commands resultOverwrite="true">
    <loadContent source="file:///D:\GS\stove.eps" />
    <convertPSToRaster />
    <saveContent name="file:///D:\GS\converted" appendExtension="true" />
</commands>

The saved file is a psd as expected but the resolution is 72 dpi.

convertPSToRaster has a resolution attribute.

However, it will be ignored if the EPS was a Photoshop EPS. Here's part of the description from the AGS Commands Reference.

Optional. The resolution at which to convert, as an integer or floatingpoint
number with an optional unit specifier. Units can be dpi (dots per
inch) or dpc (dots per centimeter). The default unit is dpi.

 If the current PostScript content is in Photoshop-compatible EPS
format, the conversion uses the resolution that is already associated
with the EPS content, and ignores this attribute.

 If this attribute is not supplied, and if the current PostScript content is
not in Photoshop-compatible EPS format, the default value is 96.0
DPI.

I saved the file with Photoshop 7 as an EPS with a resolution of 300 dpi so if I understand the documentation when I use convertPSToRaster GS should convert it to a 300 dpi psd. It is just a CMYK image and contains no vector graphics.

Even if I specify a resolution in convertPSToRaster it still gets converted to a 72 dpi psd. And I get a log warning which says

"convertPSToRaster 'resolution' parameter ignored for QuicEPS conversion"

I'm seeing 72 dpi also. I suggest you contact your Adobe sales rep or support. If you're working with a trial copy use the Web form at:
