Does anyone have experience with the paid for code samples or have comments/opinions about them? Is it worth it?

Thanks,

The R2 release of the AGS samples was a minor update:
- modifications to the .NET sample
- a new XML Schema for the command set
- corrections to the DTD for the command set.

This would be a side benefit of ASN membership not a compelling reason to join.

For ADS 5.0 users, the R2 release is somewhat more substantial:
- modifications to the .NET sample
- a new XML Schema for the command set
- corrections to the DTD for the command set
- workflows for PDF manipulation and XSL-FO
- modifications to the command samples for PDF manipulation and XSL-FO
- updates to the FrameMaker templates for XSL-FO.

If you have ADS 6, it shipped with the R2 samples.

The company I'm assisting has ADS 5.0. When I invoke the GetVersion operation of the web service, it returns: Adobe Servers p162

They are currently using an asp page to execute the commands (from within a .NET project). I'd like to move them to using the web service. Is there be a benefit in them upgrading ADS? What does p162 signify?

Thanks,
Nathan

The company should talk to their Adobe sales rep about the options re: upgrading from ADS 5 to ADS 6. The decision needs to be based on their workflow and exactly what they purchased re: support and maintenance. (The upgrade might be free.)

The top 3 enhancements were:
- Support for Acrobat 6 PDFs
- Adding the AGS 2.1 improvements to ADS.
-- convertRasterToEPS has a vectorData attribute to preserve vectors from PSD files
-- convertRasterToPDF has a vectorData attribute to preserve vectors from PSD files
-- flatten has a method attribute which among other things can generate TIFFs that are half the file size of what they were in ADS 5
- Adding XSL-FO support for multiple flows and more complex layouts

The external facing code was not enhanced from 5 to 6 so the ASP and Web Services API would be the same between versions 5 and 6.
