Hi Astrid,

This isn't possible. In structured Frame, a cross-reference is a "special" type of element that contains a cross-reference object only. It cannot contain any manually-entered text... all text in a cross-reference object is automatically generated by Frame, according to the cross-reference format.

Typically, a cross-reference format creates the text from the targeted paragraph text, and often a page number. However, your cross-reference formats do not need to use these items... they could just specify some static text. So, if the text of your "ref" elements is standard, perhaps you could define the cross-reference format to generate that static text.

Otherwise, this would be impossible at a fundamental level, because a FrameMaker cross-reference cannot contain any text, other than that which is auto-generated according to the format. As a possible alternative, you might be able to rig up a system where your "ref" element is just a regular container element, and hyperlink marker elements are added to your XML to complete the hyperlink. This sounds pretty sticky, though, probably not worth the effort, unless these references are critically important.
