Hi Lisa,

Unless you have an automated system in place to repeatedly perform the structuring, I would say do not structure. A generatable file (like a TOC) can not be regenerated if it has structure. That is, if your TOC is structured, to update your book you must:

1 - Open your TOC and delete its structured contents.
2 - Update the book
3 - Reopen the TOC and restructure it to get your structure back.

This can be a pain, because if you update a book that has structure in a generatable file, your results will be unexpected, at the least.

Another argument to be made against structuring is that it may serve no purpose, because generatable files are typically not exported to XML.

In all my Frame projects, my generatable files are structured, but that's only made possible by some plugin software that does all the unstructuring, updating, and restructuring automatically when I update a book. It's pretty cool, and because I subsequently use metadata in the generatable files for content management (ie, multiple TOCs for different outputs), I somewhat need it for my workflow. But without the automated process, it wouldn't be worth it.

Russ
