Hi Lisa,

I'm not an expert on this, but I ran into the same situation with embedded MathType equations. It seems that the only way to do it is allow Frame to use its default behavior of saving individual MIF files for each OLE instance. That is, each embedded diagram would get exported as an entity in MIF format. This makes sense, because the object is indeed embedded, so Frame on its own cannot extract it. To turn it into an entity, it must be surrounded by FrameMaker something, so it uses MIF.

This is a real pain, though. The MIF files can be huge and sometimes just end up causing errors. The normal response to OLE questions is "don't use it" anyway, because Frame's OLE functionality is not stable. I've not had problems myself, but have heard numerous warnings.

Incompatibilities like this are what lead me to often suggest that you should find internal Frame solutions to your needs, rather than resorting to leaving the application. I'm not sure what you need the XML/Oracle for, but once your content is structured in Frame, there's some pretty remarkable things you can do, especially related to content reuse. You might have to buy a plugin or do some FrameScripting/programming yourself, but depending on your end needs, that might be considerably less complicated than an FM-XML workflow.
