This is very complicated, and I don't think I have much more to
contribute, except:

Frame should be able to generate a PS file with substituted fonts. If 
Helvetica Narrow is missing, Frame should be substituting something 
else. But that shouldn't interfere with printing. Of course, this won't 
get you Helvetica Narrow, so I don't understand why you'd be working 
this way.

You've probably got some good reasons for working this way, and although 
I've given up trying to figure it out, I'm completely willing to believe 
*you* know what you're doing. ^:)

If I were you, I would want to simplify things by working on one 
machine, using Adobe PDF as my default printer, and making sure all 
fonts called for are loaded.
