I wish to start a thread on a topic that I think is important: Is the FM user on its way to extinction? The topic is contained in message 1 of this thread. I wish to use this space to offer a caveat.

Given that a feature so mundane as multiple undo is controversial among some FM users, as indicated by the multiple undo thread, one cant be too optimistic about how successfully a truly controversial topic will be handled in this forum. In the hope that a productive discussion can emerge, as opposed to the juvenile activity of mudslinging, in the next paragraph I offer advice that Ive found helpful.

Do not reply in the heat of emotion. Do not reply without allowing at least one nights sleep to pass between framing the reply and refining it before presenting it. If possible, refine a reply over a period of days until, for several days, you find that you have only minor refinements to make. This indicates that the reply has stabilized over the short term.

I think that if contributors to this thread follow the foregoing advice, we may hear sound, well-considered opinions from thoughtful people who have an aversion to joining a mudslinging contest.
