It would not surprise me if the problem had something to do with sharing the
Acrobat Distiller printer.

You can "create" the printer on your own PC by launching the AdobePS driver
installer, and installing the Acrobat Distiller PPD (I'm not sure of the
file name in V3). Then send the file to the machine with Distiller. Be
aware, however, that operating Distiller in a server situation such as a
shared watched folder is a violation of the license.
