After reading 67% of the FM 7.0 thread, I realized my perspective on FrameMaker is different. I feel old-fashioned because I choose tools for what I want to do, not because of features. 

First, a brief introduction. FM 6.0 is my first experience with Framemaker. I'm not a technical writer, but more a MIS type. I have been a system administrator in my previous life. I chose FM 6.0 because of the single source idea. 

Do the document for paper, and automate the transition to HTML or Acrobat. With email and the Internet, I have long believed electronic distributions of paper-based information is one place where many organizations may save labor and training costs, and time. Still do. 

With respect to the 7.0 upgrade, I do not share the strong feelings in the other thread of more than 57 postings. For me, the combination of Framemaker and Acrobat and HTML (or XML) is a reliable and versatile combination. New features are not important to me. Finessing the skills I already have in place and/or facilitating the distribution of the content  is more appealing. 

I live in the Windows world, and my current interest is - FrameMaker to { Acrobat or HTML } to a Perl CGI and back. Anybody else interested? 

I downloaded the PR stuff on FM 7.0, but don't know when I'll be able to read them. Maybe later ....
