FrameMaker 9: Licencing for this product has expired

A few weeks ago, I installed a licenced copy of Technical Communication Suite v2, but did not really get the chance to try it out properly at the time.

Upon launching it yesterday, instead of the application launching, I just got a dialog box:

"Licencing for this product has expired"

Does anybody know how I can rectify this?

Thanks,

Jon

Jon,

I had this message appear yesterday as well. I'm trying a clean install
to see if I can get it working otherwise, I'll try loading a new image
of my Windows disk (I run Windows on my Mac under Parallels), if that
doesn't work I'll report back.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm also running Windows/Parallels/Mac so I wonder if that could be something to do with it.

I tried doing a reinstall, but that didn't work, so I will try an uninstall/install to see if that cleans out any gremlins.

I wonder if the dialog displays the same message if you've installed a trial version and then run out of time; if so, that could be a clue too.

I'll post here again with my results, hopefully we'll find the answer.

It definitely has something to do with trial and/or beta versions. These
are time limited versions.

Jon/Mike,

If you had any of the beta versions installed, then this will mess
with subsequent new installs if you didn't deactivate and remove the
serial number before it expired. To kick start it back to live with
the appropriate new serial number you can try these steps. Note: you
don't necessarily need to uninstall and re-install the suite.

1. Roll back your system clock to a point when the beta/prior version
was working.

2. Open up either FM/Robo/Captivate and select the "Deactivate..."
under the Help menu.

3. You will be prompted if you're sure and want to deactivate the
whole TCS, etc. One important option here is that you can remove the
serial number upon deactivation. You need to do this!

4. Once deactivated and the serial number is removed, reset your
system date back to normal.

5. Finally start up any of the three main apps and you'll be prompted
with the EULA that you have to agree to and then will be asked to
enter the proper serial number.

I hope this helps in your situation.

Been there, done that... ;-)

Mike,

I had the same issue. FM and RoboHelp had the Deactive option greyed
out, but it was available in Captivate. Even after re-registering with
a new serial number, these options are still greyed out there. Another
bug to add to the growing list...

Turning back the clock allowed me to to run the program, but I couldn't
de-activate. It was not available for deactivation no matter how long I
waited. However, I was able to run Captivate and the first thing it
asked me to do was to activate. After that I was able to move the clocks
back and all was well.

Thanks.

Arnis,

Thanks so much for that, I just carried out the steps and it's come back to life.

All the best,

Jon
