The input to Acrobat Distiller is a PostScript file. You cannot "distill" an InDesign book file or for that matter, its component documents.

You can create PDF from an InDesign "book" by using InDesign's built-in "export PDF" function which does not use Acrobat Distiller at all. You can alternatively create PDF from an InDesign "book" by printing the book to the "Adobe PDF" PostScript printer driver instance which results in PostScript being generated by InDesign and that PostScript automatically being passed to Acrobat Distiller for creation of PDF. Make sure to set the desired JobOptions in the print dialogue for printing to "Adobe PDF."
