Ian,

I wrote a set of AppleScripts for an AppleScripting article published by the Professional Photographers on America (PPA publication) in PEI magazine. One of these is a script for batch renaming photos. Depending on how you want your files named these scripts may do what you need. The renaming paradigm is intended for use on folders of files where there may be several files with the same name-base and different extensions, a common situation for photographers. For example it will rename OldFile.RAW & OldFIle.JPG to NewFile.RAW & NewFIle.JPG. These scripts also do other usefull jobs like moving downloaded files into subfolders, locking and unlocking files and folders, and copying the files to multiple desinations. All of the scripts have been written in a form that makes them very easy for AppleScript neophytes to modify by editing a a short list of properties at the beginning of the script.

I just posted a downloadable copy of these scripts with a short readme/tutorial on my .Mac public folder. They should be available now at <http://homepage.mac.com/thomas.white>
