I am working on application development on mainframe env. Need to generate financial reports using PS and these PS files will be triggered onto printer and converted to PDF. This process was implemented successfully without using any logo on report but I need to print Company logo on the report and need to use customized true type fonts ( instead postscript standard fonts). Could somebody help me on how to achieve this requirment ??? Thanks, Chan

The logo might be achievable fairly simply by making the logo an EPS, and embedding it with suitable instructions around it. The EPS Specification gives the basics of this. Using a custom font is going to require you convert that font to PostScript form, type 1 or type 42 - PFA, not PFB, then embed it in the file. Then it can be used as normal. Aandi Inston

Thanks Anadi. I need some more help. 1) Could you please instruct me on how to create an EPS file using logo that's in jpg format (or) how to convert jpg logo into an EPS file. 2) Are there any tools to convert customized true type font to PostScript form or I need to contact vendor who customized font for us. I really appreciate if could help me in understanding this process. Sorry, I don't have extensive knowledge on this. Thanks a lot. Chan

Many font editors could save the file as a PFB (for instance Macromedia Fontographer). There are free tools on the web for PFB to PFA conversion; or alternatively this is not a difficult conversion - the PFB format is described in the type 1 font format book. I don't know of tools to convert to a type 42 font. Aandi Inston

Thank you very much Anadi. 1) Convert JPG to EPS - I found a tool 'ImageMagick' and I have coverted JPG to EPS using this tool. However, it's created file which contain PS program with hexadecimal data and it's too big. So, do I need to create a PROC using this EPS code in my PS file (which creates report) to position particular location. Is that the way it works ? (or) Is there any way I can call this EPS file into my PS file. Please advice me. I will be working fonts once I achieve this. I really appreciate if could respond to this. Thanks, Chan

In general, no you can't create a procedure. Sometimes you can. Most people find they have to include the whole EPS every time, on every page. And this does indeed make for huge print files! Aandi Inston

If the logo is a JPEG, it's all been rasterized, and whatever fonts may have gone into its creation are no longer present. If you can get original vector artwork from which the JPEG was made, any fonts in it can probably be turned into outlines by the program that created it -- assuming it was done with a professional illustration application, that is. Unless the logo is very complex a vector version will likely be much smaller than an uncompressed raster version, and it will probably print with much better quality in any case. --Odysseus
