I have created a Postscript file that does a cvx exec on one or more Postscript files. My problem is when I have one of these files to be executed contains duotone graphics. I am using the PressOptimized job options (out of the box from Adobe) in distiller. When I cvx/exec the file from within another file the spot colors appear as Alternate Color Space is in Calibrated RGB rather than CMYK. I can take the original Postscript file (the one containing the duotones) using the same Distiller settings and distill it directly and get my CMYK correctly. No errors or warnings are indicated from the Distiller. I tried using both Distiller 4.05 and 5.0 for Mac. Original application of Postscript file is Quark 4.11 with graphic from Photoshop 6.

Hmmm ... Do you have any start-up files executed when Distiller is loaded? Jacob Schffer

Assuming these would be located in the Startup folder under Distiller then no -Only the default ones: Example.ps which contains only comments and cidstart.ps which appears to setup the Kanji environment. This is a standard install, if that helps. What are you thinking - that I could possibly track down further? Thanks! Jean

Start-up files can change the behaviour of Distiller completely and it *is* definitely possible to write code that intensionally does one thing with files that are called by reference and another thing with 'plain' interpretation. I'd certainly investigate the graphics state of the interpreter at the time of execution of the 'external' stream and compare that to the state it has at the same spot when it's embedded. Unmatched gsave/grestore pairs may lead to differences without raising errors. Are you completely sure you get CMYK from a composite duotone from Photoshop 6 ? Jacob Schffer Grafikhuset
