I have a need to combine dozens of PS files generated by 'Print to File' into one document. That is, no blank pages between files. Also, must be able to automate and run from scripts, not GUI. Need to control printer options - duplex, hole punch, long edge binding, paper tray, cover page insertion etc. Pardon my ignorance, but what is a PPD file and how to I use this to control printer. Thank you.

I do something like this in putting together my DOSSIER (www.ptf.com/dossier) volumes. I haven't gotten into printer options, but I do play with the scaling and translation of the pages. I also add footers, bleeder tabs, and PDF bookmarks. I use a set of Perl scripts to do these things. If you are interested in this approach, get in touch with me (rdm@cfcl.com); I can give you some code to start with. As for the details of concatenating PS files, I got the necessary information from Acumen Journal (http://www.acumentraining.com/AcumenJournal.html; March 2001); "PostScript Tech - Concatenating PostScript Files".
