Interpreting halftone screens to vectors: possible?

First, I'm a PS user, not a coder. Still, I have been unsuccessfully searching for a tool that will allow me to translate customized halftone screening settings from an EPS directly into an editable vector file, and I'd thought I'd come here to try my luck.

The only thing that I found that does this, 'sorta', is a website called the Rastercator (cute, eh?) that will translate a bitmap image into an array of round spot vectors in a PDF.

This works for raster files, but what about something that will handle vector objects containing customized screen settings? I've tried various PS interpreters on the software I have, but none contain the ability to 'capture' the halftone information as a set of vector objects.

Can anyone here help me out?

Thanks.

Rasterize your EPS file and use raster to vector tool
in the graphic editor.

Alex. Yeah, that's the way I've been doing it for years. But for a variety of reasons, I was hoping that there would be some way of achieving this without rasterizing. From what I could find on the 'Spot Function' and 'Halftone Screen', and the actual mechanics of postscript halftone screening (that is, of what I could understand), I would have thought that it would be possible to 'screen' to a scaled halftone dot as the output device interpreters do, but to an array of vector dots instead of a rasterized output (all the software import PS interpreters I've found: Adobe's AI, CorelDraw, and a few others) seem to have no access to reading or handling embedded halftone info in an PS or EPS file.

The only thing that can do this, though not too intuitively, that I can find is an AI plugin called 'Vector Studio'. I can't help wonder if there isn't a way to do this more directly as an import filter-- it would make it a lot easier than having to reconstruct custom dots in Vector Studio.

The routine used in web-page based app 'Rasterbator' to convert bitmaps into multi-page vector halftones, seems to accomplish this easily with Flash side code.... can the same be done with pure postscript?

If you're curious to see what I'm talking about, Rasterbator is <http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator>
