Hi - I need to insert code into an EPS file in order to select - in seperate print streams - tray 2 with A4 paper and tray 3 with A5 paper. I've tried <</ManualFeed false /MediaPostion 1>> setpagedevice for A5 paper. Maybe I'm inserting the code in the wrong place (before %%Page). I know almost nothing about EPS or PostScript. The EPS gets generated by an old IBM product called DCF on a mainframe and gets printed on printers attached to Windows 2000 PC's. This has always worked well because no tray selection had to be done. Please help Thank you Myra

You must not do this in an EPS. The rules for EPS are very clear: you must not include device control like this. You can put it into a printable PostScript file, just not EPS (which is not meant for printing). An EPS must also be single page. I don't know if your code is right, otherwise. You should take the code from the PPD file, because it is different for each printer. Also, you must include a page size request. If you don't request a page size, the paper size is not changed, so it cannot switch to a tray with different sized paper. Aandi Inston

Thanks a lot for your help. I've managed to solve the problem in another way. I've set the default page size on the printer to A5 and the paper size in tray 3 to A5 and because the EPS code doesn't set a paper size it defaults to the what the printer has set. For A4 printing I send the print job through GhostScript which converts it to PCL and sets the page size to A4. Tray 2 on the printer has page size set to A4. Thanks again Myra
