I have installed Adobe Postscript 3 in order to have a printer which print into a postscript file on Windows 98. When i want to print, i would like not to have the "print into a file" dialog box. I would like the Adobe postscript printer to print always into the same file in the same location. How can I do that ? Thanks.

Anyway, here are two solutions: (1) Set the printer's port to a fixed (disk) file. With Win98, this can be done from the "Details" tab in the printer's property sheet. Choose "Add port"/ "Other"/ "Local port"/ when prompted specify the complete file name you want to print to (with drive letter and path). (2) If you are writing some software and want to print to a file, use the lpszOutput menmber of the DOCINFO structure passed to StartDoc(). The ability to do this depends on your programming language/ compiler/ method used to print: no problem with C/C++ using GDI calls to print, but you're out of luck with VB or if using some external object to do the printing.

Hello,
I try to program an application in Visual C++ using DOCINFO structur to tell the driver where to put the pdf resulting file.
If I don't use the lpszOutput field the pdf file is producted in the default path and it is ok.
When I set the field lpszOutput the file is producted in the right path but the file is corrupted.
Is any body can help me ?
Thanks a lot in advance.

exemple
DOCINFO di;
::ZeroMemory (&di, sizeof (DOCINFO));
di.lpszDocName = strTitle;
char path[1000];
strcpy(path, "C:\\MTM2002\\data\\[pdf]\\short.pdf");
di.lpszOutput = (LPCTSTR)path;
// di.lpszOutput = NULL;
di.cbSize = sizeof (di);

You don't give enough details, but I will assume you print using the "Acrobat Distiller" PRINTER driver (renamed to "Adobe PDF" in v6, I think). This driver does not produce PDF directly, it produces PostScript. The port the driver is connected to sends this PostScript code to Distiller automatically, so you end up with a PDF file. If you change the port to a file, that file contains the driver's output, that is PostScript code. You have to explicitely convert this to PDF, for example using the Acrobat Distiller APPLICATION via command-line or Automation (since your platform is Win32). Details on this step are in the Acrobat SDK (note: your program will be able to fully control the PDF file's name and location).

- Some of the Acrobat 6 SDK can be downloaded for free (don't know about those on Distiller). You still need to create a "web account" to download the free stuff. - You may already have some of the documents on the Acrobat 6 CD, take a look there. I don't have v6 yet, but I would expect Distiller command-line parameters to be documented there. - I think the Acrobat 5 SDK is still available, and it is (was?) free. Hope v6 is enough backwards compatible with v5 for your needs... More than this, sorry, I can't help. About another printer to create PDF directly: this was PDFWriter, now (version 6) gone if I undestood correctly. Maybe from another vendor... However, if that "other vendor" uses a mechanism similar to Distiller (special port/ etc, so the driver does not create PDF natively), you will have the same problem: once you set the output port to a file, that file will be in driver-specific format (usually PostScript), and you will need another app to convert that format to PDF.
